With over 150 years of life, Antica Dolceria Bonajuto is the oldest still-operating chocolate factory in Sicily, and one of the oldest in all of Italy. It has been producing chocolate in Modica since 1880, working at low temperatures according to the ancient process of Aztec origin. In 1911, the factory was awarded a gold medal at the International Agricultural Industries Exposition in Rome and in 2008 was included among the 100 Italian excellences internationally recognized by Eurispes.

Pierpaolo Ruta represents the sixth generation of the family at the head of the Antica Dolceria Bonajuto. At just five years old he made his first entry into the confectionary laboratories following with passion in the shadows of his father, Franco. Since 2016 it is a respected and renowned reference point for sweets. Pierpaolo attended school for Communication Sciences in Salerno, but never ceased to travel – both out of passion and profession – to countries of origin of cacao.
